Derailleur Hangers - 2 / 4

How to choose the right derailleur hanger

Purebike offers a full range of aluminum derailleur hangers for your bike or mountain bike. While some fit most mountain bike frames, it's always best to choose the part specifically designed for your frame. To do so, simply find your frame type, brand, and model to find a compatible derailleur hanger in our inventory.

What is a derailleur hanger for?

This inexpensive little metal part is designed to break on impact, like a fuse. This helps protect your derailleur or bike / mountain bike frame, which would cost considerably more to replace.

How to check a derailleur hanger for wear and prevent it from breaking

To avoid having to make repairs on the side of the road during your next ride, it's important to check the condition of your derailleur hanger before every ride, just as you check your tires and your brakes.
The hanger should be perfectly aligned with your frame. If you notice difficulty shifting gears while riding, it could mean that your derailleur needs adjustment or that the derailleur hanger is about to break.

How to replace a derailleur hanger

This is a mechanical task anyone can do. Get a set of Allen keys that fit the bolt. Unscrew it and remove the broken hanger. Apply a little Loctite threadlocker to the fastener.
Then position the new derailleur hanger on the frame. Check that it's aligned and insert the mounting bolt. Tighten it carefully, without overtightening, to avoid damaging the threads.
