Cleaning prep: Place the bike on a workshop mat or use newspaper to protect the floor where you plan to clean. We recommend mounting the bike on a bike stand ensuring the chain is horizontal to the ground. Shift chain to the middle front chain ring and third smallest on the cassette for optimum chain tension. Start by removing excess debris such as sand, mud and dirt from the chain with a clean cloth. Remove all dirt and grime from rear derailleur pulley wheels, cassette and front chain rings first, (there's no point cleaning the chain if these parts will get it dirty again. Dirty sprockets = Dirty chain.) Use a chain cleaning brush and Chain Cleaner or Degreaser on these parts.
The ten commandments of chain cleaning
Slide the lid off the X-3 machine. Place base under the lower chain and push the chain into the pink scraper using a rag.
Now slide lid onto the base and attach X-3 handle.
Fill with cleaning fluid though top inlet (Muc-Off Chain Cleaner fluid is highly recommended) until indicated level is reached.
Holding the handle in your left hand, rotate the cranks backwards with your right hand on the pedal for 30 revolutions ensuring you keep the device inline with the chain.
Remove the X-3, empty contents and rinse with water.
Repeat steps 1-5.
Dry the chain with a rag or if using a water based cleaning fluid rinse the chain thoroughly with water. Now apply a bike protectant to remove any moisture.
Apply a high quality lubricant.
Now go RIDE!!
DO’s and DON’Ts!
Do not use petrol, gasoline, kerosene or other highly volatile liquids with this device!
Dispose of dirty cleaning fluid responsibly.
Do not store cleaning fluid in the device.
Thoroughly clean your X-3 after use to ensure it's ready for the next use.
